Life in Aspen
- Banking
- You have special check-cashing privileges at Alpine Bank,
600 E. Hopkins Street, Aspen (up to $250). Please be aware that it
is common for them to fingerprint you, even though you are on the
list of participants that we provide to them.
- Public Library
- Library priviledges have been extended to our participants at
the Pitkin County
Library, at Mill and Main Streets in Aspen. Tell them you are
with the Physics Center. You may use this facility and check out
books during your stay.
- Athletic Club Passes
- The Center has special prices for the Aspen
Recreation Center. They provide facilities for golf, tennis,
iceskating, swimming, and much more. Please check with the staff.
- Those staying at condominums
managed by Frias Properties can also obtain discounted pass
at Aspen Club
and Spa.
- Aspen Music Festival
- You may buy discount coupons at the Center for $5 , which allows
you $10 off on each performance (a net savings of $5 per ticket);
not valid for special concerts or special events.
- Hiking
- An information brochure is avaialbe at the reception areas.
- Weather
- Aspen is a mountain town located at an elevation of nearly
8,000' . The surrounding mountains reach 14,000'. Please be aware
of the high altitude effects. Drink lots of water when you first
arrive, and limit physical exercise and alcohol intake. The days
are usually warm and dry, with temperatures in the 70's-80's and
frequent thundershowers in the afternoons. The evenings are often
cold, down to the low 40's in the early and late summer months.
