“Discussions with workshop attendees as well as other physicists visiting the Center at lunchtime and during the picnics made me reconnect to an “extended family” of colleagues, many of whom I had not seen for decades. Also, the hikes and nature walks were a delight. ”

Tuesday evenings at 5:15 pm at the Center, rain or shine!. Bring your food and your family. We provide the grills, watermelon, chips, and plates & utensils, along with ditch toys and volleyball. Beer & wine are sold. Get a bird's-eye view of a 2014 picnic at YouTube.

Kids' Picnics

Wednesdays at 5:15 pm at the Center in July and early August are reserved for children's picnics, cohosted with the Aspen Science Center. Hamburgers are available for purchase. The Science Center provides toys and activities. At 6 pm, one of our illustrious and kid-friendly physicists gives a short science talk geared to elementary through middle–school ages.

Public Lectures

The Physics Center sponsors the free Heinz R. Pagels Lecture Series on exciting research topics in physics. These talks are addressed to the non-scientist and are very popular. We also sponsor community outreach events. If you are experienced and willing to: a) meet with students or teachers, b) give a public talk on a current physics topic, c) give a 20–minute talk at the kids' picnic, and/or d) speak to a local service club, please let us know.
